I have spent 20 years working in research enterprise–intellectual property, policy, research administration, training, and getting things out. Most of my work has been at the University of Washington and the University of California, Santa Cruz. I have consulted over the years with a number of universities and companies. I’m an external advisor to the UC Santa Barbara’s Center for Nanotechnology in Society and a member of the advisory board for Science Common’s work with GreenXchange.
This blog records ideas that I am working on in my present work, which is to develop the Research Technology Enterprise Initiative. RTEI aims to expand the range of collaborative instruments available to investigators and companies to get on with discovery, development, and engagement.
RTEI has next to nothing to do with the University of Washington’s technology transfer efforts, though when I started RTEI and we moved the family back to Washington state, the idea was that there would be a working relationship. That’s life, I guess. There’s more to it, but not here.
RTEI was sponsored from July 2008 to September 2011 by a generous grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, with matching funds from the University of Washington. This blog, however, represents my own ideas and does not represent any positions or opinions of my sponsors or former employers.
